Reviewing _An Age of Infidels_

To keep that promise of more material coming, I offer something that I posted earlier this week.

I wrote up a review of a new book on unbelief in early America: Eric Schlereth’s An Age of Infidels (Penn Press, 2013). The review is here.

Not surprisingly, many Federalists–especially religious ones–were opposed to infidelity. In fact, I contend that Timothy Dwight and Jedidiah Morse offered a specialized “Politics of (Anti) Infidelity.” Also, the attack on infidelity played into the larger Transatlantic Anti-Jacobin stance.
